Mental Health Access & Resources

Removing Barriers to Mental Health Care

Knowing that you need support is one thing.

Finding affordable, accessible, culturally responsive mental health care can be another.

Cost, insurance coverage, provider availability, location, transportation, stigma, scheduling, and other barriers can make it difficult for individuals and families to get the support they need.

ELI is committed to removing barriers to mental health care and expanding access to mental health education, resources, and affordable support.

Access & Equity

Why Mental Health Access Matters

Mental health care should be accessible to people from different financial, cultural, and social backgrounds.
Yet many people experience barriers before they ever reach a mental health professional.

These barriers may include:

Cost of services
Lack of insurance
High deductibles
Limited provider availability
Long wait times
Transportation challenges
Scheduling limitations
Geographic barriers
Stigma
Cultural or language barriers
Lack of information about available services

Mental health equity means working to address these barriers rather than assuming everyone starts with the same access to care.

Knowing When to Reach Out

When Should You Reach Out for Support?

You do not need to wait until you are in crisis. You may benefit from mental health support if you are experiencing changes or challenges that are affecting your well-being or everyday life.

✓ Persistent anxiety or sadness
✓ Significant stress
✓ Relationship difficulties
✓ Emotional overwhelm
✓ Trauma-related concerns
✓ Burnout
✓ Major life transitions
✓ Difficulty managing everyday responsibilities
✓ Changes in sleep or appetite
✓ Difficulty coping with emotions

Reaching out early can be an important step toward protecting your well-being.
