Program One
Affordable Therapy Through Supervised Graduate-Level Social Work Interns
Empowering Lives Initiative helps reduce financial barriers to therapy through a supervised graduate-level intern program. Master of Social Work interns provide individual virtual therapy under the supervision and clinical oversight of licensed behavioral health professionals.
Fees
Affordable therapy sessions are available for up to $35 per session, with fees determined based on financial need, available program funding, and current program capacity.
Availability
Services are currently available to eligible clients in approved service areas where both the student clinician and supervising professional are authorized to provide care.
Availability depends on current student placements, supervision capacity, clinical appropriateness, and program funding. When the program is full, eligible clients may be placed on a waitlist or offered referral resources when available.
Program services may include:
- Individual virtual therapy
- Support for anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, and life transitions
- Care provided by graduate-level social work interns
- Ongoing clinical supervision by licensed professionals
- Trauma-informed and culturally responsive care
- Structured intake and therapist matching
- Clinical assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing evaluation
- Referral support when a different level or type of care is needed
Program Two
Behavioral Health Workforce Development and Clinical Training
Empowering Lives Initiative supports graduate students and developing behavioral health professionals through supervised field education, structured clinical training, mentorship, professional development, and formal evaluation.
The program is designed to help future clinicians build strong clinical foundations while developing the skills needed to provide ethical, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and community-centered care.
Training opportunities may include:
- Graduate-level social work internships and practicums
- Licensed clinical supervision and case consultation
- Structured onboarding and clinical education
- Documentation and ethical-practice training
- Performance feedback and formal field evaluation
- Trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice development

Community Mental Health Education and Outreach
ELI provides accessible mental health education intended a
Empowering Lives Initiative provides practical mental health education designed to reduce stigma, strengthen coping skills, increase mental health literacy, and help individuals and communities recognize when and how to seek additional support.
Educational programs may be offered through community organizations, schools, nonprofits, employers, healthcare partners, faith communities, and other mission-aligned settings.
Education and outreach topics may include:
- Stress management and emotional wellness
- Trauma awareness and healthy coping strategies
- Anxiety and depression education
- Burnout prevention for professionals and caregivers
- Mental health access and help-seeking
- Supporting children, teens, and families
- Workplace mental wellness

Clinical Safety
What supervised intern therapy means
MSW interns are graduate students completing supervised clinical education. They are not independently licensed therapists. Their work is reviewed and supported by qualified licensed clinical professionals.
Clinical safeguards should include:
- Supervision by appropriately licensed professionals
- Informed consent explaining the intern’s role
- Secure and confidential clinical systems
- Structured documentation and case review
- Referral procedures when a higher level of care is needed
- Emergency and crisis response instructions
ELI programs are not emergency services. Anyone experiencing an immediate mental health crisis should contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis resource.

Are therapy sessions available for $35?
Yes. Affordable therapy sessions are available through our supervised intern program. Fees are determined based on financial need, available program funding, and current program capacity.
Who provides the affordable therapy sessions?
Sessions are provided by graduate-level Master of Social Work students completing supervised clinical education.
Student clinicians are not independently licensed therapists. They provide services under the supervision of qualified licensed behavioral health professionals. Clients are informed of the student's training status and supervision arrangement before beginning services.
Where are therapy services available?
Virtual therapy services are currently available to eligible clients in Texas and Ohio, subject to student placement, supervision capacity, clinical appropriateness, and applicable licensing requirements.
Services are provided only when the student clinician and supervising professional are authorized to serve the client in the applicable state.
How do I apply for an internship or practicum?
Placement decisions depend on supervision capacity, university requirements, applicant qualifications, available openings, and applicable professional and regulatory requirements.

Can my organization request a workshop, outreach event, or community partnership?
Yes. Schools, nonprofits, employers, healthcare organizations, community groups, and other mission-aligned organizations may contact ELI to request educational programming, outreach support, or partnership opportunities.
Requests are reviewed based on program fit, current capacity, geographic location, available resources, and alignment with ELI's charitable mission.
What happens if I am not eligible or the program is currently full?
When appropriate, ELI may place eligible individuals on a waitlist or provide information about outside providers and community resources.
Referral availability cannot be guaranteed and depends on location, clinical needs, payment or insurance options, and the availability of external providers.
Does the affordable therapy program accept insurance?
The supervised intern therapy program is designed as a low-cost service and is generally offered outside of insurance. Contact ELI for current information about fees, eligibility, and available payment options.
